    The Canon Law Society of Nigeria (CLSN) is an organization for Catholic canon lawyers in Nigeria, established in 1982, that aims to advance the study and practice of Canon Law through research, sabbaticals, and annual conventions. Recently, the society activated its registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and held its 36th annual convention in September 2024 in Benin City. The organization's activities include providing clear and just legal counsel to the Catholic community and promoting a deeper understanding of God's commandments within the Church's framework.

    Purpose:To promote the study and application of Canon Law within the Catholic Church in Nigeria.

    History:The society was established in
    1982 by a directive from the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria to create a legal department for the Catholic Secretariat in Nigeria.

    Activities:
    Conducts annual conventions to foster collaboration and professional development among its members.

    Supports members in conducting research and sabbaticals at its national headquarters.

    Engages in community service by providing guidance and upholding the Church's teachings and commandments.

    Recent Events:
    The 36th Annual Convention took place in Benin City, Nigeria, from September 22 to 29, 2024.

    During the convention, the CLSN presented an award to Sir Chief Dr.Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, for his contributions to the Church.

    The society also visited the Archangel Gabriel Catholic Church, a project single-handedly built by the Esama of Benin.

    The CLSN also activated its official registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
